There are many reasons to train as a specialist at the Clínico-Malvarrosa Health Department:
Welfare:
- We have all the health specialities available, which allows the resident to learn in a multidisciplinary and team-based way.
- Our Department is responsible for the health care of some 335,000 citizens. This important volume of population ensures access to numerous and different diagnoses, a key element for an optimal training as a specialist.
- The Clinical Hospital is in the process of expanding its facilities. The consequent significant increase in the number of hospital beds, spaces for outpatient clinics, clinical analysis area, central services, cafeteria, etc. makes the decision to train in our Department even more attractive.
Research:
- INCLIVA is the research institute linked to our Department. Its enormous human and technical potential provides our residents with the possibility of acquiring research skills (publications in scientific journals, research work, doctoral theses,...).
- Our physical proximity to the faculties of Medicine and Nursing and Podiatry of the University of Valencia facilitates the research work of our specialists in training.
- Many of our current residents are authors of prestigious publications in scientific journals with a high impact factor.
Strategic and conceptual:
- At present, our Department trains more than 400 residents from all specialities and from all university degrees that allow access to specialised health training.
- Our Teaching Units are staffed by prestigious professionals with extensive teaching and research experience, ensuring quality training.
- Our teaching philosophy is based on excellence, human values and a culture of hard work.
- We aim to combine training as specialists and as people.
Geographical:
The Clínico-Malvarrosa Health Department in Valencia is made up of two hospitals: the Hospital Clínico Universitario is the most centrally located in our city and in the surrounding area there is a wide range of accommodation and residential areas. The Malvarrosa Hospital is the most iconic and is located in an incomparable setting just a few metres from the beach.
Both hospitals are well connected by bus (EMT lines 9, 10, 12, 16, 25, 29, 31, 70, 71, 80, 81 to Hospital Clínic and EMT lines 95, 99, 32, 21, 1, 2 and 19 to Malvarrosa) or metro to the door of Hospital Clínic (Facultats-Manuel Broseta station, lines 3 and 9) or metro/tram to Malvarrosa (lines 4 and 6).
Valencia is a welcoming city, open to the sea and with numerous leisure, sports and cultural options.
With the aim of improving healthcare management in the Valencian Community, in May 2005 the Health Departments were created, previously known as Health Areas (in our case, former Area 4 and current Health Department 5). In 2009, our Department was established as the Valencia Clínico-Malvarrosa Health Department, offering healthcare coverage to 15 municipalities in L'Horta Nord and part of the city of Valencia itself.
Currently, this Department includes sixteen Health Centres, one Specialities Centre (El Grao), two emergency assistance points, four sexual and reproductive health units, four Mental Health units, three paediatric dentistry units, one early care unit, two addictive behaviour units, one health research institute (INCLIVA) and two hospitals (Hospital Clínico Universitario and Hospital Malvarrosa).
In addition, the Hospital Clínico Universitario de Valencia is a reference hospital for the hospitals of Sagunto, Gandía, and, for certain specific units, for the hospitals of La Plana, Castellón, Vinaroz and Denia.
The Valencia-Clinico-Malvarrosa Department has teaching accreditation for the specialised training of thirty-four medical specialities, two Pharmacy specialities (Hospital Pharmacy and Radiopharmacy), one Physics speciality (Radiophysics), four Nursing specialities (Mental Health, Paediatrics, Family and Community Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology), one Psychology speciality and two Biology and/or Pharmacy specialities (Microbiology and Clinical Biochemistry).

The choice of a residency position is not easy and depends on many factors (order number in the selective examination, personal, family...).
In order to facilitate this decision, the departmental Teaching Committee organises an "Open Doors" procedure, so that candidates to be trained in our Department can have all the information they need.
When and how are they convened?
With the usual incorporation of residents to their places at the end of May, the "Open Doors" of our Department are convened in the last week of March. Weeks before, we inform about the event both on social networks and on the Department's own intranet.
What are they?
If you are interested in joining our Department as a resident, please contact the teaching secretary's office by telephone (961973613) or send an e-mail to docenciaresis_hcv@gva.es, giving your name and surname, contact telephone number and the speciality or specialities in which you are interested.
Your application will be addressed both to the respective teaching managers and to the active residents designated for this purpose in each of the services. They will contact you so that you can share your concerns, doubts, ... or formalise an in-person visit or an online meeting and thus get to know the specific service and its professionals. At the same time, if you wish, we will provide you with the corporate email addresses of the teachers of the services you are interested in.
In addition, from the teaching secretary's office, we can send you general teaching information about our Department that will facilitate your decision.
We are at your disposal to solve any problem or difficulty during your incorporation and throughout the period of your training.
We hope that the important stage you are starting will be very fruitful both personally and professionally.

According to RD 183/2008, external rotations are considered to be training periods, authorised by the competent body of the corresponding Autonomous Community, which are carried out in centres or facilities not included in the training programme or in the accreditation granted to the centre or teaching unit.
The authorisation of external rotations shall require the fulfilment of the following requirements:
- The authorisation of external rotations shall require the fulfilment of the following requirements:
- They should be proposed by the resident's tutor to the Teaching Committee, specifying the specific objectives to be achieved
- They should preferably be carried out in centres accredited for teaching or in national or foreign centres of recognised prestige
- The duration of these rotations depends on the duration of the training period for each speciality:
- Specialties of 4 or more years of training: maximum 4 continuous months within each annual assessment period and maximum 12 months in the total training period of the specialty as a whole.
- Specialties of 1, 2 or 3 years' duration: the period of external rotation may not exceed 2, 4 and 7 months respectively, in the total training period of the specialty in question.
The management of external rotations and the corresponding procedures is the responsibility of the secretary's office of the Teaching Committee. Its authorisation initially depends on the Head of Studies and the Department Manager, and is ultimately ratified by the Personnel Service of the Consellería de Sanitat.
Click here to access the external rotation application form.
At the end of the external rotation, the resident must complete the External Rotation Evaluation document (you can download it by clicking here) and hand it in to the teaching secretary's office. This evaluation allows us to internally monitor the satisfaction of our residents with regard to the different teaching parameters evaluated during the rotation.
When a Teaching Unit incorporates a constant external rotation in a competence for which a teaching device is needed in another Centre in its Standard Training Itinerary Guide (GIFT), the so-called "Collaboration Agreements" can be made.
These require the authorisation and signature of the Heads of Service, FSE Heads of Studies and Managers on both sides.
They make it possible to foresee sufficiently in advance the reception of the resident in the service or unit of destination, thus facilitating the corresponding teaching organisation during the rotation.
The establishment of a partnership agreement does not exempt from the subsequent administrative formalities, as if it were an external rotation without a prior partnership agreement
In our Department, the farewell ceremony for residents who finish their training period has a very special significance. The Teaching Committee, with the collaboration of some of the tutors, begin preparations months before the date set for the event.
During this event, residents receive their specialist certificates and the winners of the end-of-residency prizes are presented. It is a very emotional moment in the presence of many colleagues from the different departments and relatives of the new specialists.
